Itinerary

Day 01 - arrival to Kathmandu (Tribhuvan international airport) (1,350 m/4,450 ft.)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan international airport after clearing customs and immigration, you will be met by our local team at the arrival zone. You will be escorted by private transport to our hotel in Kathmandu, centrally and conveniently located in the Thamel area of Kathmandu. Thamel is well known as an exciting tourist hub and has a full range of restaurants and cuisine, gear and souvenir shops, pubs, nightspots and tourist facilities. After resting and refreshing at the hotel, the evening is yours to explore.

Day 02 - full day tour, Kathmandu valley sightseeing

After breakfast, we will embark on a full day of sightseeing around the scenic Kathmandu valley. You will be accompanied by our local city guide, an expert on the architecture, culture and history of the valley. The day’s sights and activities include visits to the sacred, ancient shrines of Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, and Swayambhunath, all still very active. Pashupatinath is one of the world’s most important Shiva shrines and a site of cremation for dignitaries. Boudhanath is one of the largest and grandest stupa in Asia and busy from dawn to dusk with devotees. Swayambhunath, aka the monkey temple, is famously perched on a hill overlooking the city. While visiting these sites we will also get the chance to explore some of the lesser known but equally as valuable treasures near by. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 - drive to Syabrubesi (1,420 m / 4,655 ft.) – 7-9hrs

We start our scenic drive after an early morning breakfast, traveling by local bus out of the valley and along the picturesque highway that heads north. The beautiful scenery along the way includes rivers, terraced fields, villages and sights of the snowy mountains on clear days. The initial section of the drive is relatively pleasant to Trishuli bazaar. The road then becomes a bit more rugged as it ascends to Dhunche and dropping back down to Syabrubesi, a bazaar town with much to explore including a riverside hot springs. Overnight at lodge.

Day 04 - trek to lama hotel (2,470m/8,110ft) - 6hrs

From Syabrubesi, we inaugurate our first day on the trail. The route crosses the Bhotekosi and Langtang River and follows pleasantly up the rushing Langtang River through fertile jungle and terraced fields. We pass through rural settlements and bamboo and birch groves where we have a chance to spot rare, local wildlife including the red panda. The trail gradually rises to reach lama hotel. Overnight at lodge.

Day 05 - trek to Langtang village (3,430m/11,255ft) - 6 hrs.

Today we continue alongside the river through lush landscape as we ascend upward through dense forests. Along the way, we will occasionally see the snowy peaks ahead, calling us onward. Eventually the narrow river valley widens out at Ghoratabela. In this area, there was once a Tibetan resettlement project running, and currently, Ghoratabela has an army check post, where we register our papers, and a few nearby lodges. We continue past prayer wheels driven by flowing water and prayer flags to scenic Langtang, a large settlement of mostly Tamang people with a nearby monastery. Overnight at lodge.

Day 06 -trek to Kyangjin Gompa (3,865m/12,675ft)- 3 hrs.

We continue our gradual ascent as we pass through small villages and meadows. The wide valley offers far-reaching panoramas. The route crosses several tributaries and a glacial moraine and then finally we arrive at the last and highest community of our journey, a place known as Kyangjin Gompa named after the nearby, ancient monastery. After lunch at our lodge, we have the option of an afternoon climb to Kyajori, a spectacular viewpoint above to the direct north of the settlement. Overnight at lodge.

Day 07 - exploration day at Kyangjin Gompa

The upper Langtang valley offers much to explore for trekkers. The high elevation landscape is broad and affords many views and opportunities to approach the mountains and associated glaciers more closely. There is much to see and do as we enjoy a day of exploration of the area. Beyond the requisite visits to the monastery and cheese factory, we have optional hikes to Langshisa Kharka and the viewpoint of Tserkori (5450), for trekkers feeling more than a little ambitious. We return to Kyangjin Gompa for the evening. Overnight at lodge.

Day 08 - trek back to lama hotel – 6 hrs.

From Kyangjin gumbo, we say goodbye to the upper highlands and begin back down and out the valley. We retrace the arrival route through Langtang village and break for lunch at Ghoratabela where the army check post registers our exit. After the leisurely lunch we continue down through the dense forests of the river valley to lama hotel. Overnight at lodge.

Day 09 -trek to Syabrubesi (1,420 m / 4,655 ft.)- 5 hrs.

We have reached our final day on the trekking trail. Today we make a pleasant hike along the Langtang River as we head down the beautiful valley. We gradually descend through bamboo and birch and spectacular landscape to cross the Langtang and Bhotekosi rivers to Syabrubesi, the starting point of our trekking journey where we will meet our bus to Kathmandu tomorrow. Overnight at lodge.

Day 10 - drive from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu –7-9 hrs.

We make an early start by local bus on a journey back to Kathmandu. The road follows along the scenic Trishuli river valley as we head south through the hills. Along the way we will have good views of the lush scenery and terraced farmland and perhaps even some final glimpses of the mountains. Accommodation at selected hotel in Kathmandu.
